Der nächste Schritt besteht darin, das Rohmaterial durch die Löcher des Extruders zu leiten, wo die Kraft (d. h. ein plötzlicher Druckabfall) das Rohmaterial „explodieren“ lässt. Dadurch schäumt das Korn auf und vergrößert sein Volumen um ein Vielfaches.
